VEHICLES

Vehicle titles come in many kinds commonly referred to as MOVABLES, any type of conveyance that can move from one place to another.  Cars and Trucks, Mobile Homes, Trailers of many types, are all classified as MOVABLES

CARS AND TRUCKS of all kinds will have TITLES.  In order to transfer ownership from one to another, be it an individual or a Juridical Person, (like a company or corporation). That will most always have a title associated with it, unless it is lost.  The Office of Motor Vehicles makes provision for lost title with their form 1799, where a person may apply for a duplicate if is lost or mutilated.

The transaction will require the Seller of the vehicle, the buyer of the vehicle, and a Notary Public.  NEVER sign the back of the title before going to the Notary.  If the seller is not able to present in front of the Notary, the reverse of the Louisiana Title has two (2) spaces below the Buyers section, where two (2) witnesses may sign, and one of the witnesses can then appear with the buyer in front of the Notary. There are no exceptions to this rule.  Otherwise the Seller MUST appear with the buyer.

MOBILE HOMES, sometimes referred to as “trailers” will sometimes have TITLES depending on the age of the HOME.  BILLS of Sale were used for a great many of them, and there are no titles.  Otherwise, the same rules apply as above for CARS AND TRUCKS.

The OFFICE of MOTOR VEHICLES, which comes under the jurisdiction of the OFFICE of State Police (Dept of PUBLIC SAFETY) must have an appointment to use their services.  Otherwise, you can avail yourself of any Valid and Licensed Public Tag Agency. As a Notary Public, I cannot recommend one Agency over Another.  I work in the office of FAST TAG, on 6300 W. Park Avenue, but there are many offices one could use, depending on where they live.
